Standard 3

Educators understand and apply knowledge of student growth and development.

The picture to the right is of a tracking sheet I used for my Composition and Literary Studies 10 class during the week that we planned and wrote a practice comparison/contrast essay. I used this sheet to keep track of students’ completion of creating a thesis statement, planning their essay in the outline template, and finally, writing the practice essay. If the student met expectations, I simply put a ‘+’ sign and the date to indicate so. If a student was still working towards the expectation, I put a ‘-‘ with a note to myself on what I needed to come back around and check later or, in some cases, the next day. For students who were absent, I wrote and circled an ‘A.’ This way, I was able to ensure that I knew what students were still working on grasping, which of my students needed to be provided with further extensions, and which of my students needed to catch up when they returned back to school.
